At Bojangles, the secret to our legendary flavor lies in the hands of the dedicated people who craft our delicious biscuits and expertly fried chicken every day.
To celebrate their exceptional skills, we recently held our annual Biscuit Maker and Chicken Competition—a highly anticipated event that unites the best chicken and biscuit makers from each of the Bojangles stores served by the Arden, NC regional office.
With over a decade of biscuit-making challenges at the corporate level, this tradition has become a staple of our brand. At the regional level, this year marked the seventh year for our chicken competition and the second year for the biscuit competition.
The Road to the Championship
The competition kicked off in each of our stores, where all biscuit makers and chicken breaders were recertified on Bojangles’ procedures. Each store’s top performers then advanced to area competition. Next, area winners competed at the regional level to determine the company finalists.
The finalists in each category then faced off in the training kitchen at our Arden, NC office. This year, we saw five contestants vie for the title of Master Biscuit Maker while three chicken experts battled it out in the Master Chicken Challenge.
Judging Criteria
Our finalists were put to the test by three judges from the training department. Biscuit makers were judged based on their adherence to procedures, speed, finished product, and yield. Chicken breaders were judged on their adherence to procedures, speed, and the quality of the finished product.
The competition was fierce, but only one could be crowned the winner in each category.
Celebrating the Winners
In an impressive display of talent, Ashley Halderman from Dandridge, TN, won both the Master Biscuit Maker Competition and the Master Chicken Challenge Competition—a remarkable achievement.
Winners at each level were recognized with prizes:
- Store-Level Winners: $50
- Area-Level Winners: $100
- Finalist Overall Winners: $500 & trophy
- Other Finalists: $250 & trophy
Looking Ahead
As we look to the future, we’re excited to continue this tradition with participation from every store. After all, it’s the hard work and passion of our people that make Bojangles the brand we all love.
Congratulations to everyone who took part, and we look forward to seeing who will rise to the top in next year’s competition!
